Franklin Apprenticeships’ Digital Pre-Apprenticeship Program is designed as a bridge to career opportunities for students, new workers and underemployed or unemployed individuals. It is especially appropriate for recently unemployed workers that are seeking a career shift – for example from hospitality or retail into a technology career path.

Additionally, this program is a powerful tool to level the playing field, expanding the talent pool to those populations that are often underrepresented in the tech field. Participants in the program “try before they buy” in terms of entering an IT career. The ability of Pre-Apprentices to perform on the program will be a great indicator to employers that they are serious about working in IT.

The Franklin Apprenticeships Digital Pre-Apprenticeship Program is designed to provide participants with foundational IT knowledge and skills and help candidates determine if they have the aptitude and mindset for a technology career. It is also a direct feeder into a full-time job with an employer as a Franklin Apprenticeships Help Desk Technician Apprentice.

Maryland Digital Apprenticeships integrate education and work experience into a proven pathway to success. Apprentices take classes while working, combining theoretical and hands-on learning. Upon completion, apprentices earn nationally-recognized credential (CompTIA and/or Microsoft) from the U.S. Department of Labor. Additionally, apprentices will be able to fulfill the following Digital/IT responsibilities at the successful completion of their program:

  • Understand networking services and its underlying architecture
  • Support internal and external clients in the maintenance and security of wired and wireless networks
  • Understand the correct operating systems for a given task
  • Offer basic support to internal and external clients in the provisioning of cloud services
  • Provide technical customer support
  • Understand the processes involved in improving the way in which internal and external clients use networked IT systems
  • Analyze network problems and propose solutions
  • Understand the fundamentals of data and how it’s used
  • Coach and train internal and external clients in various products
  • Understand digital security concepts

As an Apprentice for the Network Engineer Role, you will need to bring strong analytical, problem-solving, leadership, and organizational skills to the job, as well as thrive when working in a team environment. The Network Engineer Apprentice needs to demonstrate an attitude and aptitude for the successful completion of the apprenticeship program. This could include previous industry experience, relevant IT certifications, reasons for interest in the role, and additional factors. Additional

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Strong technical aptitude
  • Genuine interest in building and maintaining networks
  • 1-2 years or more of demonstrated, on-the-job IT experience – for example, working on a help desk as a Tier 1, 2 or 3 technician; working as a Systems Admin, LAN Admin or Network Admin
  • IT certification of some kind (for example — A+, Network+, Security+, Microsoft certs, coding bootcamp, Cisco certs) or have completed similar classwork

Step 1

Complete the application below.  Once submitted, you’ll immediately receive an automated email to inform you if you are eligible for the Missouri Digital Apprenticeship program.

If you meet all eligibility requirements, as described above, a Franklin Career Agent will review your application. If our Career Agent determines that there is a potential fit, you will be contacted by email to schedule a brief introductory interview.
Note: Please reply promptly to the meeting request.

Step 2

During your phone meeting, a Franklin Career Agent will gathermore details about your background and interests and answer some general questions about the program. If you and your Franklin Career Agent determine mutual interest, you will be invited to an in-depth video interview.

Step 3

During your video interview, your Agent will help prepare you for the next steps and will provide tips and training for employer interviews. Once you have completed your video interview your Career Agent can begin sharing your resume with potential employers.

Note: This step is not the employer interview.

Step 4

Your Franklin Career Agent will begin the scouting process to match you with employers in your area. 

Note: Be patient! Please keep in mind, this process can take some time. You can expect regular updates from your Franklin Career Agent during the waiting period.

Step 5

Your Franklin Career Agent will contact you once an employer has shown interest in your resume and is ready to meet with you. It is very important that you respond quickly,  and remain flexible to the interview times offered.

Note: Hiring decisions are made by the employer — not your Franklin Career Agent. Your Franklin Career Agent will help prepare you for the interview, but ultimately it is up to you to ace the interview and win the job!
